The 24x24 works well in compact rooms because it needs fewer awkward cuts around fixtures. That said, 24x48 can also make a tight space feel bigger by reducing the number of grout lines, so the choice comes down to your layout and the look you prefer.
How slippery is the matte finish when wet?
